Catrice Cosmetics Haul & First Impression

Thursday, March 19, 2015

Assalamualaikum and hello! Since February I’ve been seeing many of my blogger pals posting about spotting or spending on Catrice Cosmetics that has recently arrived in Malaysia. Before purchasing, I read an extensive post by my favourite beauty blogger Fiona of Street-Love about her Catrice haul and I was very happy to have learned about the products from her ^_^ I made up my mind on what to buy and try from Catrice and when I had a mini reunion at KLCC a few weeks ago, I dropped by at the Guardian pharmacy to get my list crossed. Initially I wanted a mattifying powder, a clear brow gel and a concealer palette as I don't really need to buy items other than these.

Well, we don’t always get everything we want, don’t we? The AllRound Concealer Palette was out of stock until the new shipment arrived (as I was told by the nice Catrice promoter) so that will have to wait. I got the Lash & Brow Designer, Colour Correcting Mattifying Powder and a Longlasting Eye Pencil WaterproofI have been using them for quite some time now and I am ready to share my initial thoughts about these three products.

Lash & Brow Designer (RM16.90)
This is a clear brow gel / mascara. The unique thing about it is the wand brush as it has one side like a comb and another side like a spoolie. Obviously, the comb side is for your brows and the spoolie side is for your lashes. I did not get the tinted ones as I already have one from Maybelline. To me, a clear brow gel & mascara is a good emergency stash as you’ll never know when you’ll need it, and it’s a handy item to have in your bag.

This Lash & Brow Designer claims to be a “shaping & conditioning mascara gel” with Panthenol in the ingredient, to hold brows and lashes perfectly. I tried it on my lashes without using eyelash curler or other mascara. It gives a pretty nice curl to my lashes and it does not clump. However don’t expect any volume as it does not do that. The curl does not last long unfortunately, but I guess if you use eyelash curler and normal mascara prior to this gel then it would be a different story ;)  I like it better on the eyebrows as the brush comb really does its job in combing my brows neatly and it stayed put throughout the day. I have originally thick eyebrows but there are some sparse areas. This Lash & Brow Designer gel helps me get a neat looking brows and I have been using this on a daily basis ^_^ overall, I recommend this Lash & Brow Designer if you’re looking for a clear gel to hold your lashes and brows in place. Simply said, this is good for brows but so-so for eyelashes.

Colour Correcting Mattifying Powder in 010 Delicate Blossom (RM24.90)
I was actually torn between this one or the All Matt Plus Shine Control Powder but I settled for this Colour Correcting Mattifying Powder solely because of the “colour correcting” properties, and I’m not gonna lie but the colour combo on the pan is so pretty I can’t help but to buy it hahahaha XD I only saw 010 Delicate Blossom and I didn't realize if it has other shades (Fiona said there is). I actually didn't even realize there are 2 shades for this powder, see, to my eyes the other darker shade looks like a bronzer. Pardon my eyes. There are purple, pink and green patches on this powder which is supposed to help even out your complexion if there are redness and dark circles, you know, the normal concealing stuff. The promoter told me to use this powder with a brush and so I take out my favourite Ecotools Bamboo Buffing brush.

This powder is very finely milled to the extent that it produces some fallouts on the packaging when I swirled my brush on it. Upon stamped on face, it left me with a soft and smooth canvas and it brightened my complexion a bit.  Mattifying effect is only for a max of 4 hours on my face. After lunch I have to blot and reapply. I can’t say anything about colour correcting as my skin tone is quite even and I don’t have any redness problem. I will try this powder with different types of foundation, BB and CC creams later and I’ll make a separate review soon J and oh, this powder has a slight baby talc scent to it.

Longlasting Eye Pencil Waterproof in 050 Brown Town Girl (RM12.90)
I’ve ran out of my favourite brown eyeliner and to repurchase the exact brand is quite expensive for my current financial status. so I tell myself to try this one from Catrice first as it is so cheap XD there are two types of eyeliners I saw on Catrice’s display, one being this Longlasting Eye Pencil and the other one is the kohl pencil which must be sharpened using a sharpener (not my favourite, I only love auto pencils). This Longlasting Eye Pencil Waterproof comes with a separate sharpener at its other end if you ever need it. Brown Town Girl is a dark, almost bronze brown. I am very impressed with its opacity and it is indeed a waterproof and long-lasting eyeliner because I wear it on my waterlines and it stays put, not a tiniest smudge and still vibrant when I get back from work. The test includes sweat, hot weather, and aircond within 9 hours and this eyeliner prevails. Definitely recommended and there are many choice of colours for you to pick. The SA told me that Longlasting Eye Pencil Waterproof is a better option than its kohl sister as this one does not transfer on eyelids (what she said lah, not me). For only RM12.90 this is definitely a steal!

But mind you, this eyeliner breaks easily, I don't know what I did wrong but it can be the weather, as I found that the eyeliner stick/lead inside became soft and it breaks. I always keep this eyeliner in my bag in case i need to touch up after prayer, and sometimes my bag is left in the car it is so freaking hot until the eyeliner became soft i think. So, it is advisable to put it in the fridge for 10 minutes before you use it just to be sure.

So there goes my first impression on Catrice products that I’ve bought. I shall say that you definitely need to get the Longlasting Eye Pencil Waterproof and the Lash & Brow Designer as they’re the handiest products to have in your bag, it works, and it does not break your bank. As for the powder, I’ll leave you to your own thinking on which one to purchase as Catrice brings in quite a few selections of them in Malaysia. I will surely come back with a separate review but I hope this post is helpful if you’re considering what to buy from Catrice ^_^ till then!

  2. Lash curler kebab? :D

Yes, Colour Correcting Mattifying Powder comes in 2 shades. The darker shade looks like a bronzer but it's not. The powder is so fine that it doesn't seems like it's on the face. It last very good on my skin. I only blot my nose by 3pm. That's all :D

    1. I know right, i feel hungry now thinking of lash curler kebab XD

i thought the darker shade was a bronzer -_- yeah i agree with u, it is super fine that i have to stamp a few times on my face (the flat top brush) until i'm sure i have powders on, hehe! maybe it doesnt last on my skin coz i dont drink enough plain water, staying in aircond really make my skin go oily in no time.

  3. I saw the picture you posted the other day and decided to get the Catrice Color Correcting Powder too.. Wasn't aware that there were 2 shades. I was tempted to get their Pearl Blush, b'coz it looks like the ones from Guerlain, but there wasn't a price tag so didn't get it. Might get the Lash and Brow designer when I'm able to drop by Guardian. The ones nearby my place are all small outlets, so they don't have Catrice... Sigh..
