Good Toners for Oily Combination and Acne Prone Skin
Thursday, August 21, 2014
Assalamualaikum and hello! It has been quite some time I posted here, sorry for the lack of updates! In this post I will be sharing with you guys about 5 of my favourite skin toners ^_^ For your info, I used to have very oily skin. Then it changes to oily combination (with some dry areas) and very acne prone, which has been giving me major headache XD before I jumped into this beauty blogging bandwagon, I never cared to use a toner or even own a toner. However now I do enjoy using toners after cleansing my skin as it gives some sort of a relieved feeling to my skin, and the feeling of readiness to absorb those creamy moisturizers next. I have an arsenal of toners laying around, which I categorized into "specific" and "for all use" toners. Specific means that the toner works best on MY skin in attending to specific needs. For all use means that the toner works well on ME all the time to provide a fresh feeling to my skin, and nothing more. In this post I will focus on the specific toners first, as I saw that many people are dealing with oily skin and acne prone skin. So I hope that my little sharing can help you if you haven't found or still looking for new toners to try ^_^
*I am emphasizing "MY SKIN" and "works well on ME" to inform that this is personal. what works on me might not work on you as our skin differs from each other.
This toner provides my skin with a very fresh and hydrated feeling upon use. It does not sting my skin at all, and it comes with a mild scent if you are concerned with skincare fragrant. This Ultra Facial Oil-Free Toner is paraben-free, silicone-free, fragrance-free and oil-free. What I really love about this toner is that when I use it along with its sister Ultra Facial Oil Free Gel moiturizer, I really can see that my skin is less oily and it does not feel dry either. If you are looking for toner and moisturizer gel so light that it won't make you end-up looking like an oil slick but at the same time hydrates your skin excellently during the day, then I vote for this Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Toner for you to try ^_^
2. Etude House Skin Malgem Essential Toner (250ml : RM79.90)
This is my toner of happines ^_^ there is nothing more divine to my skin and sense of smell than using this toner. This is from Etude House, the famous Skin Malgem toner and what I got here is the Essential toner. I bought this for 1/3 the normal price in their May promo. Skin Malgem Essential is targeted for combination skin which is perfect for me as I have very oily T-Zone and dry skin for the rest of my face, how depressing XD what you can see in the image above is a layer of oil above the toner solution. As my baby bestie Rachel said, "use toner with oil for oily skin? Imba stuff!". Well this is definitely my favourite toner for all time as it really give my skin that fresh yet so moisturized feeling. The sensation it gives to my skin is different from the first toner above, as this Skin Malgem Essential gives a lot more "drenched" feeling to my skin, which I really love like a spa to my skin. It does not make my skin look oilier after it dries up, however to wait for this toner to dry up on its own takes a long time. I don't wait though, I put on a light moisturizer after this Skin Malgem Essential toner. Oh yes, I super duper love this toner as well because of the amazing citrus scent it has! I can't live without it I guess? hehe!
3. Yves Rocher Pure System Clarifying Toner (150ml : RM39.00) | mini review here
I have ran out of this marvelous Yves Rocher Pure System Clarifying Toner already since I only got the travel size, but I can never forget it. This toner is like my long-lost love, if there is any. So sweet and I can't deny that I won't get over it, hehe! First of all, I love it too much for the scent it comes with. During the days I don't wear makeup, even my close buddies will ask "what is this very nice smell on you?" when they sit closely to me. Yes people, they can smell my toner!! This Pure System Clarifying toner by Yves Rocher comes with salicylic acid aimed to calm pimples down, and it works a bit on my skin. It is not that magic potion that makes pimple disappear in a blink, no. It helps my skin to stop pimple from getting larger and soothe its redness. This toner comes in a thin gel consistency, very cooling on the skin and a bit sticky when I pat it on my skin. However, it makes my skin feel a bit dry so I need moisturizer as soon as I pat it dry. But I still love it because of its scent and it retarded the growth of pimples on my face :p
As a naive girl, I thought astringent lotion is good when we have acne prone skin. But later I found out that it is advised to use astringent lotion only when our skin is having that pimply acne problem and switch when our skin has healed. I bought this Himalaya Herbals Deep Cleansing Astringent Lotion without a motive. I absent-mindedly took it because it was on offer, and I think now they already came out with a different/new Neem version of toner. This one makes it way here in this post because it is just so nice to use when I have that moody skin condition. It does not sting (unless the pimple is popped) at all, it has a mildly refreshing scent (combination of lemon and common sesban ingredient i guess), and I just won't say no to herbal treatments like this :) It does not dry my skin either, and this toner comes in water-like consistency, brown in colour.
I'm not gonna say much about this fabulous Oxy Powder Lotion as I have babbled myself a page about it in my Fabulous Find post, have you read it? If you haven't you better do it now! This is another "tukang pujuk kulit merajuk" that I really can't live without, as long as my skin is still invaded with acne. I have opened my second bottle now. This toner is very cooling and has a minty scent. It also helps me to avoid getting too oily on the skin, and it calms any pimples on my face so that they won't get any redder or bigger. It does not sting unless it came in contact with broken skin. I also noticed that with frequent use, it helps my acne scar to fade bit by bit. Majorly recommended!
So yeah, that's about it. I arranged these toners according to price, from number one to number five being the most expensive to the cheapest. I am neutral with all, I won't say "I like this one better over that one". I hope that I have listed why I love these toners clearly so that you can see why and if any catches your attention.
If there is anything you are unclear about these toners, you can ask me in the comment section okay? And please please, if you have any recommendations to what you want me to do in the upcoming post, I welcome your suggestions too! In fact, I need your suggestions on what you want to see more in this Mieza Everdeen blog okay? I am working (part time) now just to earn some pocket money as I have finished my studies. But don't worry, I think working has made me more aware that I have a blog and I can't let it die, hehe! Till then, see you in the next post!

I have that toner from Etude House as well and I only used it for few days I think and I get pimples after that. Sigh.. and lucky you as I bought it at half of its retailed price. So right now it's just sitting there in my shelf.
ReplyDeleteBut I think that toner from Kiehl's is interesting as I love 4 to 7-Free products.
Thanks babe for sharing this! :)
If you ask me, as I love skincare so much, hmm... do you have mask sheets, or mask packs or any masks that you like? Or what do you do for extra care in your skincare routine?
