Review : The Body Shop Foundation-Dragon Fruit Lip Butter

Tuesday, May 06, 2014

Assalamualaikum and hello! I am going to review a lip product from The Body Shop Foundation, which is the Dragon Fruit Lip Butter. I got this lip butter in March during my mini Body Shop Haul. It was actually an impulsive buy because I did not plan to buy this but I saw it in a basket at the cashier counter. My hands automatically grabbed one, took the tester, sniffed it and the next thing I know, it was paid. Anyway, I did not regret buying this Dragon Fruit Lip Butter as it is truly a remarkable product and I think if you are a serious lippie sucker, then get this one before you can't find it on the shelves anymore.
Before I go on about the product, there is one thing I'd like to tell you about The Body Shop Foundation. I learned from their website that this foundation was set up in 1989  to support grass root charities. For all products with The Body Shop Foundation label, 100% of the profit will go to these three charities; which are Wild Futures, Erb's Palsy Group, and Book-Cycle
This Dragon Fruit Lip Balm came in a green-pink pot with 8.9g worth of product in it. The lip balm is white in colour, and since it comes in a pot, you'll have to dip your finger in it to get the product. Make sure your fingers are washed and lint-free (sometimes your towel gave away lints when you wipe your hands with it) or else your lip balm will get contaminated. Its consistency is just like a light butter. One thing about this lip butter that I discovered, its consistency changes according to temperature. If it is in air-conditioned room, the lip butter will have a nice, balm-like consistency. This helps in ensuring that you won't accidentally pick too much product with one finger swipe. However, if the temperature is hot like what we're experiencing now in Malaysia, the balm-like consistency melts a bit. You'll have to dip carefully for the product or else you'll end-up taking too much. Don't worry, it never melted like water, that I can assure you ;)
I personally would recommend to use this as an overnight treatment or whenever you're home. This is because this Dragon Fruit Lip Butter is not Vaseline-clear and if applied thickly, it gives your lips a white coat like you're wearing a lip mask. It is also very buttery and if you wanna wear it under your lipstick, just dab it very thinly before lipstick. As for using it to treat dry lips, I have been using it numerous times before I sleep and when I woke up, my lips felt smooth and hydrated. I also used it when my lips felt dry while I was working in an air-conditioned room. This is by far my favourite lip balm to treat dry lips. The only problem with it is just when I need to dip my fingers into the product, it felt just unhygienic even I already washed my hands.
Pros :
  • Really does the job in moisturizing lips
  • Sweet scent : for people who love sweet-smelling products
  • An excellent overnight treatment for dry lips
  • Pretty and convenient packaging, fits in your handbag
  • 10ml or 8.9g of product is quite a lot (filled 3/4 of the pot)
  • A little goes a long way
  • Tasted sweet (if you accidentally licked it, you won't choke of any bad taste)

Cons :
  • Quite pricey for a lip butter
  • Pot packaging would be unhygienic
  • Strong scent : some may not like it
  • Makes your lips look white like wearing a lip mask if applied too much
  • Consistency changes according to surrounding temperature

    1. When I see the price now, I wondered what happened to me when I bought it. I thought I paid RM19 for it XD however the performance is very good so I don't mind the price I paid ^_^

  2. You reckon someone who is allergic to lip balms with flavors/scents could use it for dry lips? (The doctor couldn't confirm whether I was allergic to Vaseline or the cherry-flavored balm, but the pharmacist I talked to said some people can't use flavored lip balms.)

    1. Hi Rachel darling ^_^ hmm, in your case, I think it's better for you to stick to lip balms without flavour or specifically for sensitive lips/skin. Or if you want to know whether you're allergic to flavored lip balm or not, you can try a small dab of different balms, but make it one at a time :p

Yeah I think that would be a good idea.... *sobsob* But sad because I like fruit-smelling lip balms and stuff.

If I try, would have to be when I have a few days when no work, so if got allergic reaction I don't have to worry. XD
